The 3 “S’s”-A Simplified, Successful and Stress-Free Path to Retirement”

Without a doubt, leaving an organization after 30 years is an extremely emotional decision.  My career had really become a part of my identity.

But then, as we all know, ‘things happen,’ and events take place that cause you to ‘sit up and take notice.’ And that is what happened to me.

WHAT PROMPTED MY DECISION to RETIRE?

Approximately 14 months before I officially retired, I had my “AHA” moment. My 30th service year anniversary would be coming up in February of 2018. I was extremely proud of all that I had accomplished during my career, and I had no regrets. I believe that those of us who are successful have an obligation to ‘give-back’; and I wanted to continue to mentor young men and women who are in college and entering the workplace. I wanted a more flexible schedule and quality time with my family. And, I was seriously considering the opportunity to re-invent myself and become an entrepreneur.

MY ASSESSMENT of WHAT I COULD DO in RETIREMENT

I re-assessed my strengths and transferable skills and competencies. I am extremely organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and focused. I knew that these were important qualities that could be channeled to pivoting towards an entrepreneurial venture. I was also thinking about the importance of maintaining good health, and am now running 5K races! Most importantly, as I was going through the retirement thought processes, I was networking constantly. Getting feedback and different points of view from those inside and outside of your organization is vital and paramount. A lot of this feedback helped me to fashion my ‘next chapter’ career.

EXPERIENCE is the BEST TEACHER

So, what am I doing now? I am a great believer in the expression, “Experience is the best teacher.” And so, I am now a Retirement Journey Advocate, guiding people to plan for a simplified, successful, and stress-free path towards retirement. This time in your life can truly be the next and best chapter! I am now involved with 3 different income streams, one of which is this new entrepreneurial venture. I have more time to spend with family and friends, and more time to concentrate on self-care, health and wellness. It has truly become my next, best chapter. And, I would certainly welcome the opportunity to chat with you about your upcoming ‘next chapter’ plans. Contact me at ruthleahfrankel@gmail.com.
